The Defence Minister of Israel Benny Gantz has arrived in
Rabat for a historic visit to Morocco amid high tension with
neighbouring Alegria.
It is the first formal visit by an Israeli defence minister to the
country and it comes a year after the two countries resumed
their diplomatic relations.
Morocco established links with Israel in the 1990s but
suspended relations following the second Palestinian uprising
against Israeli occupation in 2000.
In 2020 Rabat joined the Abraham Accords with some other
Arab countries to normalize relations with Israel in a deal
brokered by former US President Donald Trump.
